How to make Mother's Day extra special
Mother’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the amazing women in your life, whether it’s your own mum, grandmother, the mother of your children or even a fabulous aunt or stepmother.
Here are a few surprising ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in a meaningful way. Some of these are great ideas to do with both your grandmother and mum, too.
Take a class together
Sharing new experiences, learning a skill or taking up a hobby together is a great way to bond with that special woman in your life and spend time with her. It could be wine tasting, pottery, photography, hiking, dancing or a seafood cooking class.
A home cooked meal
Gather around the family, make like Nigella Lawson and throw a simple dinner in your mum’s honour, featuring some of her favourite dishes. It doesn’t need to be flashy – she’ll just love being surrounded by her nearest and dearest.
Take a walk down memory lane
Gather some old photos from some of the great times you’ve shared with your mum and pop them in a photo album. Even if you’ve taken selfies with her or captured some memories on your mobile together, head online to find a service that can print mobile photos for you.
Alternatively, if you’d like to get a bit creative, you could put a video together of old footage or build a scrapbook of memories for your mum to put a smile on her face.
Recreate an old childhood photo
For a present that will really make her laugh, track down a favourite childhood photo of yours and recreate it with your other parent and siblings. Take inspiration rom some of the hilarious examples that people have posted online from around the world. The more awkward, the better.
Organise a family photo shoot
While old memories are lovely to recall, why not create some new ones and organise a shoot to hang a new family photo on the wall?
And here are some great ideas for new mums....
If it’s the first Mother’s Day for the mum of your kids, it’s a particularly special time to celebrate her first year as a parent, so here are a few ways you can sweep her off her feet.
Chances are your partner is sleep deprived and would love some rest, so why not take bub off her hands, let her sleep in and whisk her away to a spa for a day of pampering?
Organise for a cleaner to visit
Take a load off both your backs as new parents and organise for a cleaner to come visit your home on a regular basis, even if it’s just for a short period of time.
A hand printed photo from your baby
This can get a little messy, but if you can get a hand or footprint of your baby on a piece of paper and frame it for her, your partner will treasure the image for years to come.
